SETTING THE VALVES

One of the most important jobs on the Laverdas is to maintain correct valve clearances. With changing fuel quality valve clearance can sometimes rapidly close, which will eventually cause cam lobe, bucket/rocker damage and eventually valve damage. Keep an eye on them. Eventually I hope to have some instructions on valve clearance adjustments, especially for the triples and little twins.

In the meantime, here's something I have found useful in working on my bike. Instead of scrawling down shim clearances on scraps of paper, print these babies out and file them in a folder. You'll always know what shim is in there and hence what you need to order before you tear it down. Seperate files for triples and 8v twins- of course those 4v twins don't need it!

The files are just MS Word doc files, I have swept them for virusses but download at your own risk. Click the link and choose 'save to disk'. Then open them in Word, print one out then take it to work and run off a few dozen photocopies! :-) No worries.
